Fourth of July Week!

We had so much fun for Fourth of July!!!
The day kicked off with a ward breakfast, then the town parade, ending at Porter Park where there were a bunch of vendors and food trucks. After walking around, we had an epic BBQ with the neighbors, including strawberry ice cream!!! Then, it was off to IF, where we checked in to our river-side hotel and walked around the park by the IF Temple until the firework show started!
What a day!

Loving the Bars Recipes

This week has been a ... get-back-to-normal kind of week. No more company and no more shots for poor sweet Marlie. And, we are finally back on a schedule (well, kind of). It's the best we can do! This means back to making dinners on a regular basis, as well as desserts... of course!

Both Pinterest recipes we had to try... And both recipes are wins! Check them out by clicking on the pictures.

from the girl who ate everything: peanut butter chocolate bars

from cookies and cups: avalanche bars

Baby Blessing

Marlie is growing up so fast! We had her blessing this last Sunday, which was so wonderful. She will be so wise, will love to teach the gospel, and will be a good girl. With her chatterbox personality already, I don't think she will be shy at all :) Look out world, Marlie is coming!

30 things my kids should know about me

We found this list of 30 things (mostly questions to answer) about ourselves a couple weeks ago here and have loved answering the questions together. There have been things we didn't even know about each other and it has sparked some fun conversations and memories we've each had growing up. We want to be better at keeping a journal and this seemed like a more fun way of doing it than just a review of day-to-day events (which right now consists of work, play with Marlie, and sleep as much as possible). Here is the list of 30 things my kids should know about me:

1. List 20 random facts about yourself.
2. Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.
3. Describe your relationship with your spouse.
4.    List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could.
5.    What are the 5 things that make you most happy right now?
6.    If you could have three wishes, what would you wish for?
7.    What is your dream job, and why?
8.    What are 5 passions you have?
9.    List 10 people who have influenced you and describe how.
10.Describe your most embarrassing moment.
11.Describe 10 pet peeves you have.
12.Describe a typical day in your current life.
13.What’s the hardest part of growing up?
14.Describe 5 and weaknesses strengths you have.
15.Describe when you knew your spouse was the one or how I fell in love.
16.What are your 5 greatest accomplishments?
17.What is the thing you most wish you were great at?
18.What do you think your spouse loves most about you?
19.How did you feel the moment you became a parent?
20.Describe 3 significant memories from your childhood.
21.Describe your relationship with your parents.
22.Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?
23.What’s your favorite holiday and why?
24.What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about parenthood?
25.If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and what would you eat?
26.What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?
27.What is your favorite part of your body and why?
28.What’s your favorite quality in your spouse?
29.What are your hopes and dreams for your prosperity?
30.List 10 things you would hope to be remembered for.

We both answered the first question (List 20 random facts about yourself) :) Kaylie's has 21 things because she just needs it ;)

Kaylie
1.     I love popcorn… mostly because of the butter. I am always in the mood for popcorn.
2.     I am a clean freak. Not OCD, just very clean.
3.     Once I have an idea of any kind, (a better way to organize, new ways to decorate, anything crafty, something for a good deal, new recipes or new anything) I can’t get it out of my head until I do it.
4.     I can’t go to bed without brushing my teeth and I can’t officially start the morning and “feel clean” until I brush my teeth. It’s very important.
5.     I love movies, but I can’t watch them a second time until I don’t remember it very well.
6.     I usually do not initiate any hugging, but I love when people hug me.
7.     There is no dessert I can think of that I do not like. And I am not opposed to eating them for breakfast. My theory is I can work it off during the day, so it is actually better for you.
8.     I love the outdoors and nice weather to do activities outside, but I also love the occasional rainy day. I love the smell of rain!
9.     I go through spurts with my hobbies. Like reading, sewing, decorating projects, journaling, movies, etc., I get bored of them but always come back to them eventually.
10.  I do not like being the center of attention.
11.  I am known to do things out of spite. Although my talk is bigger than my bite.
12.  I can’t sleep with the covers over my toes; they like to stick out.
13.  If I am having a bad day, someone listening, going out for a treat, and a very long hug can usually cure it.
14.  Baths and naps are my favorite ways to relax.
15.  I hate running.
16.  Depending on the day, I like busy and quiet places. Busy because it makes me feel like I am a part of something and I am going places. Quiet because I love to relax and not worry about anything.
17.  I am a big worrywart… the biggest.
18.  I am a minimalist at heart. Moving around a lot has helped me not be attached to many things.
19.  I have a black thumb when it comes to gardening.
20.  I think magic erasers are really magical.
21.Thanksgiving isn’t thanksgiving unless there is real gravy, a turkey and real mashed potatoes… but mostly the gravy.

Joe
1.     I love baseball, especially the Angels
2.     Poptarts and chips always need to be in the house
3.     If I can make it or fix it, I won’t buy it

8.     I can live on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
9.     I won’t stop ‘til the jobs done
10.  The fourth of July is probably one of my favorite holidays, besides Thanksgiving and Christmas
11.  Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream are the best desserts
12.  My family’s motto is work hard, play hard. And I do just that.

16.  I love summer thunderstorms…kaaaaaaabbooomm!
17.  Served my mission in Montana and besides being a California Guy I am a Cowboy at heart
18.  I like to play golf
19.  I can play the piano, but I don’t like telling people I can

Our Little Girl

We love our little girl SOOO much!!! She is kind of our life right now. She is turning us nocturnal, which makes us a little kooky, but she is also turning us into more grateful people. Any accomplishment, however small, or cute thing like smiling, is now a big thing. We take pictures daily and talk about her non-stop. We think these will help justify our obsession:

So far, we have gathered the following: she likes to stay up late,   loves riding in the car – being out and about. She sleeps with her hands up in the air as well as smiles and whimpers – she must be dreaming about something. Because her hands like to be free, she hates to be swaddled. She loves her binky, the swing, and cuddle time. She also loves to eat – who wouldn’t?!? She is so patient with us and doesn’t cry excessively – which is much appreciated. But most of all she brings the sweetest spirit into our home and we love having her as our daughter.
